Can a cue be straight again? If possible . How? If not is it possible to play with a cue in a non-straight condition?
    Thanks Guys.
p.s. At my level, it probably does not matter. ( The occasional 30 clearance )

Joe Davies played with a banana cue with some success !!! That was until a car ran over it and he had it repaired !!! Sure lots will add to my reply ??? T

Easy to straighten a cue, but not for beginners really. Most cuemakers only charge £10 so that reflects how straightforward it is to do

Steamed usually aren't they? My club's cues are mostly bent

My mate Phil does it very easily, cue tip end on table with the shaft resting on the cushion, applies pressure with one hand and bends the butt upwards, looks very extreme, but he is a master at it

Agreed , it isn't for beginners but equally it doesn't happen overnight either !! Very little work is involved just patience and an understanding of how the grain works !! T

Yes a cue can be straightened but there's always the chance it will bend again in the same place, wood will do what it wants, you take help by looking after it properly but in the end if the wood wants to move it will! You can play with a bent cue, depends how bent and in which direction in relation to how you hold the cue, ie if you hold the cue with the chamfer facing up and the cue warps to the left or right it will be more of a problem than if the cue is bent upwards. Hendry's old connoisseur cue was bent if I remember correctly as was Ken Doherty's and it didn't hold them back. I straighten cues with steam, holding the cue over a pan of rapidly boiling water where the bend is and then bending by hand, checking and repeating if necessary untill its straight, leave overnight if possible to make sure the bend doesn't return and then re-finish, maple tends to bend back more often than ash

For what it will cost get it done by a pro, unless like me you enjoy working on cues as a hobby, in whichcase get some cheap bent cues from carboot sales or some broken pub cues you can practise on before you try it on a decent cue

Only problem with using steam is you are going to need to re finish the cue, whereas using your hands to "stretch" the grain means instant results

Course it works !! But what control would you have over the end result ?? Plus if you artificially bend a cue with moisture , what happens when it dries ?? T

Just found this tool . . . thoughts?

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
                              I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)
