  • Alan Day Contact Details for Cue Repair?

    Hi people,

I have just bought a Master Cue Special from a seller on ebay. Described to me personally as "As New" Condition.

When I received it i found that it had something rattling around in the butt, the weight isn't loose, its just something small, it is very annoying as you can hear it when you are cueing!
The seller has been far from helpful and is insisting that i must have damaged the cue, and is refusing to give me a refund.
After a lot of hard work and lengthy discussion, the seller has agreed that he will pay for a repair to the cue, but only if the cue is sent to Alan Day for the repair. (I have to pay postage I might add!)

As i am in the deepest depths of Cornwall, there are no Cue Makers / Repairers anywhere near me.
As the seller has been slightly obnoxious and not particularly amicable, I am slightly worried that if I use the address details that he has sent me, I may never see the cue or my money again.

So, to get to the point, if anyone has any contact details for Alan Day. I would greatly appreciate it if you could pass them on to me via a pm, or to my email address georgepeers@gmail.com

I just want to make sure the cue gets sent to the right place.

Also, a quick question about the Master Cue. The seller told me that the cue was less than a year old, I have seen many other Master Cues and they all have engraving in the joint. This one does not. Does that mean that this cue I have bought is a fake? Or do they just not engrave all of their joints?

    Many Thanks for your help,

    Regards,
    George.

Would you not be better off trying for a refund?

+1 on that, I'm pretty sure even if you can't sort it out with the seller ebay will find in your favour.

        Thanks for the replies guys.

I wasn't sure if ebay would rule in my favor, as the seller states that they accept no returns. And although I was told the cue was 'As New' it was listed as Used. However, if you think I may have a chance then i'll certainly give it a go.

Just in case I don't get anywhere though, if someone has a contact number for Alan Day it would be a great help.

        Thanks Again,
        George.

Not sure what the e- Bay rules are but would be worth checking. What feedback does the seller have?
To be fair to the seller something could have happened to the cue in transit. They do get bashed about a bit at times by certain couriers. It would be easy for something to have come loose, maybe a small bit of dried glue.
          Good luck.

To be fair to the seller, the cue was exceedingly well packaged!
It was encased in a thick foam tube used to wrap water pipes and then wrapped in bubble wrap and then further wrapped in plastic. I was astonished at how well it was packaged, it took me 10 minutes to get into it, and I think I could have thrown it from a 3 story building and no damage would have occurred.
That's of course not to say it would have been impossible, but i'd find it unlikely.
I suggested to the seller that perhaps they did not notice it? But they are having none of it either way and are claiming that (and I quote)
"You must have damaged it" "Can you prove you haven't damaged it, Exactly, NO!" and "You don't have a leg to stand on"

I even offered to pay for the postage to return the cue if I was offered a refund, but again that was turned down.

I think it's time to see if ebay can help.

            Thanks for your replies!

            Regards,
            George.

there is BlueMoon Leisure (www.bluemoonleisure.com) in Ilfracombe Devon, not sure exactly what they are capable of (repair-wise, etc).
Also I vaguely recall someone saying there is another cuemaker some where down your way but cannot find the reference.
Anyway, sorry to hear your problem and hope it is corrected quickly.

                who is the seller?

it's about time people who take the p*ss are outed.

people are quick to heap praise via forums (generally unwarranted and unknowledgable) on sellers/cuemakers but when they get a chance to really help other consumers by revealing their genuine issues with sellers/cuemakers, they bottle it.

no cue should develop a rattle just due to transit issues. simply doesn't happen. especially when you say it was very well packaged.

                    Thanks for your input everyone.

It's good to hear that from you Mike, if that is the case the seller must have known about this rattle before sending it to me. I spoke with him on the phone before I purchased the cue to make absolutely sure there were no problems with it, I asked every question in the book when it comes to buying a second hand cue, I appreciate the fact that it has a couple of marks here and there but no one wants a cue with a rattly butt! and I certainly wouldn't have bought it had I known.

Im not sure if I should name the seller on here, If other people think I should then I will. From his previous feedback I can see that he has sold plenty of cues in the past, usually high end cues such as gbl etc, so he obviously knows what he is selling. Mostly he has good feedback but has 3 negatives from previous years, all from cues he has sold. However as he has had no negatives in the last 12 months he shows as 100%

Dave Walton, I haven't received an email from you, is there any chance you could try again? I have checked my spam folder and nothing in there either. Thanks for the effort, I appreciate it.

Hopefully I can get this sorted somehow.

                    Many Thanks,
                    George.

                      lol. exactly my point.

clearly the seller has not made it easy for you. likewise, you should let other consumers know so they can be aware of possible issues.

                        I think that's fair enough.
I'll see how the process goes, if I get the cue repaired and returned to me in reasonable time and I am happy with it, then i can't really complain too much. However, if it ends badly then i will certainly be happy to name and shame to warn others.

In the meantime, I'm still needing Alan Day's number if anyone can send it to me? georgepeers@gmail.com
                        Would be greatly appreciated.

Yep I'd name the seller anyway as their attitude doesn't appear to be reasonable ... Also I'd almost guarantee eBay(or PayPal) would be in favor of a refund, it's your choice but i know I'd just be taking the refund.
