  • Rubbing down the cue butt, best thing to use ?

I want to rub down the cue butt and do a refinish, its got a type of shellac oil that looks a little bit like lacquer, its the standard phoenix finish.

Whats the best thing to use to rub it down and then get a very smooth finish after ?

Also, does anyone know of a good ebony grain filler thats easy to use ?

Ebony can be very dense and can be made really smooth without grain filler.

Rub it down with a really fine sandpaper..then when your happy with it start to rub it with 0000 grade wire wool..once its nice and smooth just use some cue oil on it and it should be perfect.

with this cue you should be able to rub it down with 0000 wire wool and sort of break up the finish and use it as it is.

I'll give the 0000 wire wool a go, thanks for the pointers.

I removed the lacquer off my BCE cue with a Stanley knife. I had my tabled cover with a tarpaulin, I placed old newspaper down. I then with a very sharp blade in the knife I moved the blade backwards and forward along the cue whilst rolling it backwards & forward across the table.
After removing all the lacquer I then rubbed the cue with a very fine glass paper and then I used 000 steel wool. Linseed oil was then rubbed over the whole cue, smooth as silk.

Can 0000 wire wool be used on the shaft too?

yes but with this cue you should not need to.
