  • Tips......................................again!

I have decided to give some different tips a bit of a try. I have been using Blue Diamond and so I have got hold of some Elkmasters and some O'mins. I am going to change the tip over the next day or so and will try it when I next play.

The O'min is clearly different to anything that I have ever seen on a snooker cue but, the Elkmaster looks exactly the same as a Blue Diamond and I have to say that if I were to mix them up prior to fitting, there is no way on this earth that I could tell which was which and, I don't think that I would be able to tell even when I started to play with the new tip......................or would I?

If I placed an Elkmaster next to a Blue Diamond, could you tell the difference, and if so, how?

Hi ADR147, Thank you for you comment on my thread. I have put two tips side by side and quite honestly cannot tell the difference between them, apart from the size, they are absolutely identical in colour and so I am still wondering how it is possible to tell if a cue is carrying a Blue Diamond or an Elkmaster.
I have taken a photograph, at least as best as I can and would be interested if you (or anyone else for that matter) can tell the difference. The invoices that I received with the tips clearly show the makes, i.e. BD and Elkmaster

This is the first time that I have tried to attach an image, so hopefully it will have worked.

P.S. The tip at the top is a laminated O'min that I intend to try

      Tips_2.jpg

I have attached what is hopefully a better image.

Throw the elk and bd in the bin. fit the omin tip and invest in a bowtie tip scuffer (£10 from Andrew) use scuffer on a regular basis and never look back.

I would go with that, but it's not the best of pics as the Omin looks orange and they are red.

                    Reply for 'culraven' and 'itsnoteasy'

Sorry folks, but the one on the left is the Blue Diamond. It would be interesting to know why you both thought that it was the Elk.

This is the point that I was trying to make in my original post, looking at the two tips side by side, there is absolutely no difference whatsoever. This begs the questions, are the materials used in these tips the same and, is the manufacturing process the same or different. If everything is the same, what makes one better than the other?

That is interesting as when seen "live" it's fairly obvious which is which, I guessed the BD was on the right because it looked darker at the top and looked more like the colour of a BD ,but they are normally that colour all over. I don't know but I would imagine they are both pretty much made the same way but BDs are impregnated with darker chalk.
As I said not the best of pics, I thought the Omin was a wine gum lol.

Definitely not a wine gum, in my house they just wouldn't be around long enough for me to take a picky of em! I have had another look at the tips this morning, surprisingly enough in what we know as sunshine and, the Elkmaster is without doubt slightly darker than the Blue Diamond.
I've got a game on Tuesday morning and can't make my mind up whether to go for the Elkmaster first or the O'min......decisions, decisions eh!!

Without trying to sound cheeky you're making it hard for yourself...if you rub off the chalk you will notice the difference between them...
