  • Looking For a new cue

    Hi,
My am looking to treat myself to a new cue. I am looking for a 3/4 ash cue 58", 9mm tip and hopefully under 18oz.
I would like to get a set including mini but and screw in extension and case. I have set a budget of max £250 for this, but I would like to be able to try before I buy if possible.
I live in Southampton and there doesn't appear to be anywhere local that keeps a decent range of cues. I was wondering if any members could suggest somewhere within an easy day trip to try. I did try some Cue Craft cues at a local snooker hall and although the finish on them was better than my current cue, they didn't have anything in stock that just clicked with me.

    Thanks

    Webby

Could you get a train or bus heading towards Middlesborough? Thornaby and Green Baize to be precise..? www.greenbaize.com

Edit: For your budget you'd get a nice master-cue with extensions and an aluminum cue-craft case...

Thanks SouthPaw, but I was rather hoping for somewhere a bit further South

Some years ago the League that I play in was reported to be the Largest single snooker League in the world, with 14 divisions of 16 teams. But it looks as though Snooker has died in the South going by the lack of replies

Check out www. franksandellcuesport.co.uk You can come over and spend time on my table whilst you TRY before YOU BUY.
Snooker is not dead but quieter in Southampton. I am at Marchwood on Sunday for the final stages of the English amateur billiards
tournament and my drive from Worthing in about 1.1/4 hours. You can call me on 01903 238571. F.

There is also blue moon leisure north devon region, but have had no experience with them. Maybe Frank's is worth a punt since it's local...

Well I ended up going to visit Frank in Worthing.
I spent a good couple of hours in his "Potting Shed", trying out various cues and came away happy with a cue, extension and case.
I found him to be a very knowledgeable guy to deal with and his collection alone was worth the visit

I don't know the original maker, it is an imported cue that Frank has rebadged to "Sure Shot" one of his own brands.
The cue has a Stainless Steel Joint and ferrule. Maybe if Frank is listening he can remind me what he said about the original manufacturer.

The cue chosen from my stock was a quality import that I sell under my long used name of Sure Shot. It's main feature was a well tapered quality ash shaft multi splice butt with extra length. 60". The import came via Brittania who I have found well priced throughout their range. I know Webby appreciated being able to take his time in quiet private conditions on a top quality table. I have traded cues and repaired cues for over 30 years from many manufacturers and also have some unique cues in what is probably one of the largest private memorabilia collections in the country.:snooker: F.
