  • Painted Butt

Forgive my ignorance, but when they talk about these Chinese cues having painted butts. What exactly does that mean?

Is it maybe rosewood or similar and painted black to replicate ebony?

Or is it just one piece of ash with the butt painted on the end of it, to look hand spliced?

    Jay.

I believe it can mean both. Some cues are all ash with the ebony 'painted' on, other cues dye cheaper wood to look like ebony and splice the butt like normal.

Sorry to thread derail. But I notice you're in Larkhall. Where do you play snooker?

sanded a couple of these down and they were a brown ebony with lots of flecks and filler to conceal marks in the wood. Its then dyed black to look like much better quality african ebony. Pity really because the exotic splices on the top of this are often very good quality.
