  • Advice for a newbie on buying a new cue please.

Ive always known that i can play to an okay level, but cricket was always my first love, however kids have come along and needed to find a new hobby that didnt take up quite so much of the day. So when my missus said thee was a pool team recruiting that play sundays for a cpl of hours, i thought why not.
To cut a long story short i have never played competitive pool before until a cpl of weeks ago and I really need to find a cue as im using the skippers one at the moment, got a budget of about 100-120 for a cue and case. Would very much appreciate any suggestions as im pretty much in the dark on this.cheers Dan

Just you wait! I started off playing in a Wednesday pub league and now probably spend more time each week at the pool table than a five day test match would take!

For a first pool cue that fits your budget, you can't go wrong with the likes of Peradon in my opinion, although someone on here might have a bargain for you? If it's only for pool try different tip sizes out before buying something. They're not for everyone but most pool players seem to prefer something around 8mm.

Just re-read your post and realised you want a case in your budget too...

Have a look at cheap and nasty cues on ebay, battered £10 argos type cues that no-one is ever going to buy and see if they come with cases. I've had all sorts of decent cases off ebay by bidding on crap cues and paying little more than the postage cost (about £12 for a one piece case via parcelforce).
