  • Players Championship 2014

Just seen the draw for this tournament. Anyone know what the qualification criteria was? Doesn't look like top 32 as no Graeme Dott. Yu de Lu and Ju Reti included so maybe some sort of Asian qualification route. I must admit I've lost it a bit with all the rankings lists. Used to know them off by heart. Age thing. Lol.
PS. Young Scott Donaldson got Ronnie in round one. Tough one for the lad but a great experience no doubt.

This is down to the Order of Merit from the Euro and the Asian PTCs, the top 24 from Euro and the top 8 from Asian (IIRC) = the 32 players for the final.

and noticed Ben Wollaston has Ding, another toughie

Thanks Dean. Crikey another list. Must be a full time job for someone compiling all these stats. Hope their spreadsheet and typing skills are better than mine!

several spreadsheets actually, one for Euro, one for Asian, Ranking List, Money list, points/money schedule, etc, etc, etc
At least from next season the Points list is dropped, so the person in WS can put their feet up for a bit

Hey Dean I'm still struggling with this. Any chance of a link? Why is Dott not there but Hawkins is. The list I'm looking at has Dott ahead of him.

I got it wrong, the top 9 from the Asian Tour go through; so the top 25 from the Euro Tour go through with those not already qualified being given a two-year tour ticket,

Euro Tour final order of merit
            http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/PTC...216580,00.html
            http://snooker.org/res/index.asp?template=10
as you will see Dott is 27, so out of the top 24 - only the top 24 from the Euro Tour.

Asian Toru order of merit (I cannot find it on the WS site.
            http://snooker.org/res/index.asp?template=26

            Combined final listing:
            again, not on WS site
            http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp?template=39
this is the money listing which means Dott is 30 in this listing but as he is 27 in the Euro listing he does not go through.

            I need to lie down!

Thanks again Dean. It's really complicated now. Think I'll come back to this later. My brain is hurting a bit. Must be a nightmare for the players to keep tabs on where they stand. Probably just concentrate on playing and leave the stats to someone else.
Think I've got the Worlds sorted. Wee Dott will probably have to play a qualifier.

depends on how he does at the China Open as well as those around him but there is not that many points between in and out the top 16 (~1,000) so it can all change

Oh dear, this is all getting too much, lol. On the World Snooker site it says the seeding for the Worlds is BEFORE China, ie, AFTER the Players Championships. Must be a mistake. I 'm sure it was always after China.

ooh I meant Haikou World Open not China
GD has 3,500 point waiting to go on from his QF from World Open

                      see http://www.snooker.org/res/index.asp...19&season=2013
where Hermund has listed the points already accrued, to nearly real time, you will see the red text for the players still in play and the points they definitely have accrued.
But the actual points (right column), has not had these points added yet#

well now I am confused, GD points are the same as after the AT4, so to me the 3,500 has not been added, but other have had their points added, and others not.

Maybe Hermund has not finished yet.

don't forget that the PTC Grand Final as upto 3000 ranking points on offer as well, before the cut off.

Great list! That's really helpful and confirms my understanding. Dott will have to qualify. With Ronnie in as seed 1 Milkins will have to qualify as well. Carter qualifies which is nice to see. Can't wait for the qualifiers.
Players Championships could change things for those that are playing!

only 3000 points. the winners cheque of 100 000 pounds seems large in contrast

it is still classed as a minor ranking event but with a huge carrot to get people to want to enter the PTC events to get to this final.
What gets me is £100k for winner, £38k for runner up, why the huge gap? why not £50k, or £60k? always gets me the discrepancy in the winner/runner up prize across nearly all events...

Think I'll check this list again in a few days time. Looks like something not quite right. Maybe Dott is in the top 16 after all.
