  • Laminated "Ash" Shafts ?!

Came across this laminated shafts on FB pages of cue makers.... Thai & British.

What is a laminated shaft ?
Look like ash, actually look like a fake ash.... !? Are they ash ?
Why is this been created ? Due to high demand or just because of the nice but unnatural arrows or very cheap ?
    Playability against ash shaft ?

Dave Coutts makes these too. He says they are maple based with inlays of walnut glued together in different stages to create the effect of perfect arrows. Some say they play great, I persoanlly don't think there is any need to deviate from ash or maple as it is.

this picture is Laminated Maple !!! I've played a few frams with this kind of shaft. actually the difference is not much. but imo they are more responsive !! with better CB control and less deflection !!! ! they are not cheap !! You can also buy Laminated ash. JP made earlier in 80 's L8 shaft !!! At the moment Kevin D in Canada takes order for LM Ash shafts !!

Btw,,, about your question (difference between this wood and ash) : is the stiffness and density !! Laminated Maple is denser and more stiff ,compared to ash !!!

As long as he suits ur game !!! ,, but I do like them !! they are good players !! I guess,, I have a bad taste.

O Min do these type of shafts as does Rileys ( believe it or not ) . Good playing cues , very powerful , denser than Ash , lower deflection , easy to lose control of the cueball , until you learn to slow down and let the cue do the work for you.

I would like to try them but they're too expensive for just a trial and it would take a really good cue to suck me away from my MW
