Cue flat in hand

Just wanting some advice really??

I have an Robert Osborne green plate Jimmy White style totally round butt.

I'm having a flat put in the cue and the badge moved as it's in the base of the butt.

I'm just wondering where to have the flat put on the butt.

Where do you guys hold the flat in your hand what do you find the most comfortable.

I think most people have the flat in-line with the chevrons/arrows, plus this makes it easier to sell on in the future

I was thinking that but I have seen some cues with that flat on the side grain but when the flat is in your fingers you site down the chevrons

Depends where you hold the cue then, i hold it flat up

On my old cue I used to hold the cue badge down so I think in going to get it done that way as there are nice chevrons either side of the shaft.

I hold the cue with the flat facing sideways so I sight with the side grain when using ash but I now use a maple cue but its set up the same way as my ash cues as even maple has a gain all be it more faded but I just find I sight better using the side grain also I find that holding the flat sideways lets me generate more cue power, something I am not lacking in anyway but I just find it more comfortable that way.

I hold the flat to the side so its facing towards my body, so im looking at the side grain when cuing with my main playing cues, although i hold all my cues the same way regardless how the chamfer is lined up with the chevrons, i have an old billiard cue that the chamfer lined up with the side grain, holding a cue another way just doesn't feel right

Or better still , don't adjust it at all and send me the cue ......love a round butt .

Also , will it not depend on where you actually hold the cue . I.E if you hold it further up the shaft .....the flat does not come into play , as you are still holding a round butt . But if you hold the cue at the back , then the flat will make a difference .

Think Ding holds the cue quite high up with his backhand from memory .....so he is effectively using a round butt cue . If you get my drift !!

Yes Neil I get what you mean I used to hold the cue further up the butt so the flat didn't matter but now I've tried lowering my grip and this has worked out better the cue is at Dave coutts now ready for a flat to be put in.
