  • Cue buying advice

    Hello everyone,

I am taking up Snooker again after a 7-8 year absence. I am looking to buy a new cue and any advice would be appreciated. Ideally I would like something in the £180-250 price range. If this could include case and extensions as well that would be fine but not essential. My budget is not set in stone so could be higher if need be. I would like to be able to use the cue to play both pool and snooker. I can't remember the specs of my old cue but I don't imagine it was anything out of the ordinary.

The problem I have is I live EXTREMELY far away from anywhere I could purchase a decent cue so will probably have to buy the cue without seeing/trying it first. Are there any manufacturers you would recommend or avoid?

Stuart at Greenbaize [ http://www.greenbaize.com/] has a very good reputation or ADR147 on here should have something in your price range .

Where abouts are you ? You never know , they may well be someone near you .
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

I have heard good things of greenbaize. I am in the Shetland Islands so no there is no one near me in any direction haha. My local Snooker Club has fallen into disrepair and disuse so we have formed a Committee to get it going again so I want to have a nice cue to play with after all the hard work is done!

Have a chat with Stuart then . He used to do cue and case deals .
Tell him your budget and he should be able to sort something out .

Good luck in getting your snooker club going again .

A Phoenix might fit nicely in that price bracket. I have a Unity from craftsmancues and I have to say, the finish and playability of the cue is up there with the best I've seen.

Great to hear that up there in Viking land you are putting a club back together, top effort!

Get an O'min off welsh pool on ebay. They're the best cue out there for the money, even beats a GBL.

The Thais are making the best value and quality cues right now (O'min, GBL Phoenix are all Thai brands), equal to anything a UK cue maker can do. But if you want UK, I'd get a Cue Craft and £250 would buy you their best model.

Welsh Pool is a member on here and can sort you a 1-piece or 2-piece at any spec I believe. Message him. He will do you a deal I'm sure. Haggle!

There is nothing wrong with a James Butters cue in that price range.
                Good cues for little money.

Value wise bud. I don't believe there's much difference between the two cue brands in quality terms from what I've seen. Both Thai.

True. Truth is, there's a lot of brands to choose from in this price range that will deliver a very good cue. I do think that once you get to £300-400 there's nothing in it. The chap could also order a Ton Praram III custom for less than £300 I believe.

GBL are FAR superior to O'min

Thank you for all the replies. I will do a bit more internet digging. I am getting the impression that there is nothing wrong with some of the Asian manufacturers. I am going to have to go out on a limb a bit with the specifications but I am sure the average weight and length would be fine for me.

Whereabouts in Shetland are you originally from ADR147?

as an average i would second that.
