I used to have a Riley Dufferin centre joint ( Prestige model, I think ), made under licence by Dufferin in Canada for Riley . I think they may have been made in response to the influx in Canadian players into the Snooker scene in the 70s and early 80s and the subsequent interest in Maple cues , I also own a John Bennet , J B 1 series cue made by Dufferin , in Canada , again under licence , in Hard Rock Maple and stamped with the Dufferin logo on the shaft. John Bennet was acquired by Riley in 1980 and this perhaps is another avenue to pursue to establish the definitive answer to your question .Dufferin as a company started making cues in 1967 to 2005 in Canada and then 2005 onwards in China . Fred Davis was still playing competitive snooker ,televised , in 1991 , but I would imagine your cue is a late 70s early 80s cue .Someone like Peter Ainsworth may be able to shed more light on the subject , I would be interested to learn more myself.

The ones to lookout for are the laminated shaft ones

Cheers, David Smith from cues n views has confirmed its from the late 70's. The butt on mine looks to be maccassar but not sure if it is or not, no idea what wood the front and back splices are though.

Good shout Jim, would you say the main butt is maccassar?

To be honest Dave , the butts I have seen on Dufferin / Rileys that have been Macassar , have been more heavily figured and definitely more stripy ( Striped Ebony being a common name for Macassar ). Perhaps it is some kind of Rosewood although I agree with Jim , Padauk over Maple veneers.

It could well be a type of rosewood, but definitely looks more like maccassar seeing it in the flesh so to speak, looks similar to my brothers Walter Lindrum cue which is definitely maccassar
