  • GBL Vanquish Cue

Yesterday morning I drove through to Greenbaize to get a new tip fitted and while Stu was fitting the tip I did what I always do and have a good look through all the lovely cues there while having a good chat with Stu.

Anyway, a few cues caught my eye and the beauty of Greenbaize is that there are two full size tables in perfect condition so its easy to actually try out the cues. I had tried out about 4 or 5 different cues when I saw a cue that stood out as it had what I consider to be the perfect ash shaft........dead straight side grain and five evenly spaced 'sharp' arrows. I tried out the cue and absolutely loved it, so a real rarity, a cue that not only looked lovely but played lovely as well!! Stu has a constant stream of either customers or phone calls so I had lots of time to put the cue through its paces and I couldn't fault it. Eventually I asked Stu about the cue and he told me that the cue is one of his newly badged 'Vanquish' cues.

What Stu has decided is that when a new batch of GBL cues is delivered then Stu goes through them and picks the best of the best, not just for looks but for playability. Stu actually selects the best playing cues and then out of possibly 100 cues he may just badge about 4 or 5 with his GBL 'Vanquish' badge and these are not just good looking cues but more important is that they are (in Stus opinion) the very best playing cues.

So, yesterday I actually stayed there for about 2 hours and played as many different shots as I could with the cue and I just loved it more and more............and finally ended up buying it!

Now, I realise that Stus ideal playing cue may not be to everyone's choice but as an ex pro and a certified coach he knows what he is talking about. I actually asked Stu to play a few extreme deep screw shots with side just so that I could see what it is capable of in case a miracle happens and one day I actually develop a good cue action!

I am now in love with a cue again and cannot rate the cue highly enough. Stu Green is just one of the nicest, most helpful and enthusiastic people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and if anyone wishes to buy a wonderful playing cue then check out the GBL 'Vanquish' cues. There will never be many of them and it will be never be possible to actually pre order one as its up to Stu to select them from GBL deliveries but it certainly removes the guesswork from buying a cue.

I have absolutely no affiliation at all to Greenbaize, I am just lucky enough to live really close so drive through whenever I can.

Good choice oldgit, was half tempted myself but can't see how they'll play any different to my current GBL. Are they not around £500 as well

You are right Leo but I would far rather spend my money on what I KNOW is a great playing cue rather than wait two or more years for something like a Parris Ultimate that I may not like. GBL are brilliant cues, craftsmanship is perfect and you obviously have a GBL that you are happy with so why change?

Exactly mate, I've said many times the selection stu has and the quality of the cues it's hard to see why anyone would wait years for a cue when you can have a good quality decent cue on your doorstep within 2 days.

Now that you've found a cue that you really like I think you should ship me all your other cues so you don't get tempted to revert to one of your other 'favourties'.

Could get a letter from Aston Martin, complaining that people may get the car & the cue mixed up . . .

Thanks John I am useless with posting pics on here. My cue is the top cue on Stus website I think......9.4mm tip with five arrows

I need the container tracking number please with shipping company and port of entry as I expect Canada Customs will want to inspect it when it arrives.
