Restoring black to the ebony..

The ebony near the back arm appears slightly faded and a "matte" look compared to the top of the splices.

What is the method of restoring it back to very dark and shiny black. I've used oil which gives the effect, but this seems temporary and soon goes back to looking worn.

Keep going with the oil?

That only seemed to work on the tip, I couldn't find any black chalk.

I would maybe add a couple more coats of oil - with lots of buffing in between. If its plain ebony - no other exotics then a light rub with 0000 wire wool between coats will help polish it up.

Just keep building the oil up, helps to apply the oil using 0000 wire wool leave for 24 hours, buff like hell and repeat. You can cheat with a bit of black polish, but won't last and goes quite tacky.
