  • Making a cue more robust

I use a cheap chinese piece of junk that i got for free when i joined my local club.

I really like the hit and balance but fear it won't last for long, given I'm a banger in both senses of the word. I also break with it, hard, when i play english 8 ball. It is going fall apart sooner or later.

So, is it relatively easy for a cue maker to strengthen a cue without altering its hit?

in answer to your question asking if its possible to strengthen a cue without altering it would be a difficult one imo as not heard many asking or doing this , so i would be very interested to no if its possible which i have my doubts it can be done , unless you get another shaft made but then its a different stick ?

Most cues like mine fail at the joint or ferrule, so was thinking about reinforcing those, or replacing them. Replacing them is pretty easy to do but will probably alter the hit and, besides, the wood they attach to may crack just as readily anyway. The shaft is also hollow, i think, so maybe some some of treatment to the wood?

                    Hollow? Are you sure?

Sounds like you would be better off just buying a proper cue. You wouldn't have to spend much to have something a lot better mate.
