  • New cue advice

Hi All, I started playing again last September after 20+ years in the wilderness (played once a year for an hour). Anyway I purchased a cheap 2-piece cue 5 years ago as I was only knocking the balls around once in a blue moon. Now I am more serious about the game and currently playing 4-5 times a week I am thinking about getting a new cue. Even though I am playing really well with this cue, I feel like I am missing out on the extras such as the screw on small extension and main extension and being a short person I am stretching a lot. Some one suggested getting a thread put in the bottom of the cue and buying the extensions but I like the cue and weight so much that if I need to revert back to it I would prefer to have it in its current state.

So my question is how do I get a replica cue in terms of length, tip size and weight but as a 3/4 cue? When I pick up other players 3/4 cues I find the weight distribution different, is this common or just my imagination? This may be a silly question but how do you weigh a cue, would kitchen or bathroom scales suffice?

I notice a lot of people buy second hand cues off the web, but surely you need to try them first? Sorry if these are stupid questions.

Well it will all depend how much you want to pay. Do you want a 3/4 cue (don't bother) or do you want a 1 piece cue (defiantly). check this site out http://www.greenbaize.com

A butt joint won't alter the weight enuf so just have it butt jointed if your happy with cue.

Your current cue I take it is a centre joint? If that is the case it won't be the easiest thing to replicate in either a 3/4 or a 1 piece. For me a centre joint just hits differently due to the joint location. Also the balance point will likely be further up than most 3/4 or 1 piece. 3/4 tend to have a solid butt, but they can be forward weighted by coring. Just weigh on kitchen scales (oz) I would think bp will be quite important you if you look for another cue.

That said, I agree with Jim the butt joint shouldn't make a noticeable difference.

if you like the cue keep it and get a butt joint added.

You can buy a push on mini butt and push on cue extension so no need to alter your cue at all. Check out ebay.
