  • Broken cues

A student broke one of the rack cues, trying to straighten it! He is going to replace it, so I am not bothered.

It got me thinking of uses for broken cues. This one has 24cm broken off the tip.

    Any ideas?

Cut it off from the point he's broken ,, put a new ferrul an tip on it . give it to a Chinese guy or sum kid who is too short , so he can play snooker !!

tidy up the end and use it as your control-stick when training, i.e. to move/stop the balls around the table, instead of ruining your own cue or another rack cue.

I support my roses with bad or broken cues.

IIRC ADR uses them for his tomato plants

I have a broken 52" Omin cue here which has been sitting around for about 2 years now and I notice it from time to time and see if I can figure out a way to lengthen it. I have a friend who was a machinist and a good snooker player and he took an old 1pc cue and put a 6" dowel about 15" from the end of the butt. He used this cue forever but has decided he might play again so he tried out my MAC laminated and played much better with it so perhaps a dowel is not the best thing after all.

My biggest issue is I have to remove the shaft side of the joint on this 3/4 Omin, then put in an ash dowel using smaller dowels on each end, drilling holes into the 2 pieces of the cue and then glue everything back together so everything is straight. Then I would have to sand everything down the whole length of the cue as the shaft would be too thick. Then ferrule it and install a tip. Maybe too much work since it's just a cheaper machine made Omin so might not be worth the effort.

This one is a dirt cheap Chinese made one. I did wonder about making the butt into a minibutt.

Well the guy who broke the rack cue has bought me another one. It is only a machine spliced thing but it isn't at all bad. It is certainly a good deal better than the one which he broke. So I am happy with that!

Break another cue and you have chopsticks.

At this rate I wish he would break a few more rack cues.
