A dull sound when hitting the cue ball

I was playing snooker with a friend yesterday and I had a couple of shots with his new cue. When hitting the cue ball the cue had a really dull sound. It was so dull that the guy on the next table commented on it saying he had never heard a cue sound like that before. What could this be? Is it a sign of a cheap shaft? Bad tip?

What cue make ? one piece or 3/4 ?

From what i've found , the lower end of the cue market [ price range ] don't put the best tips on .

Could be either? I have a JP and as soon as I put a Talisman on, (and I've had various shaped and depths of Talismans) it changed the sound of the hit. Very dull and wooden at times in comparison but also very reactive.

The tip is a Pro Granite. They are very hard tips if you get the right one. Some can be soft and I have had a few that are a bit hit and miss. By that I mean they are inconsistent. It could be that?
They also take a bit of time to bed in, he had just put it on the day before.

IMO: Worst tip ever made . Hated it when i tried one .

It's so difficult to find 'The best tip' because people have different preferences. It used to be the Blue Diamond, then it was Elk Master, an ex pro told me to go for the hardest tip you can find as it bites the cue ball better but Aiden Owens from Pot Black said the opposite. He said go for a medium to soft tip.
I guess it's personal preference.
When I think about it I was probably at my best as a teenager using a Blue Diamond. I've just heard that it's difficult to get proper ones these days.

Thanks for the link. I have come across these before and after some research I actually ordered some about 15 minutes ago. Thanks anyway. I'll update on the tip once I have played a few frames with it.

IMO some of the best out there are, in no specific order!
ADR 147 medium
MW Blackspin on Blkspin ferrule
Blue diamond plus

All great tips which is best is going to be down to player preference and the cue its on.

I have gone with the blue diamond plus, thanks for the info.
What's the Mike Wooldridge black spin like? I don't really like the thought of changing the classic brass ferrule look of a snooker cue to what I think is an American looking pool cue with the black ferrule. Just my personal thought and I'm in no way having a dig at Mike or his products. 👍
