It's always a bit of a risk to buy one cue. It works out fewer times than it doesn't. You are much better to go and try some, and choose the one that you get on with. I used a hybrid system. I bought around fifteen. The one I ended up settling with was around the eleventh or twelfth there are three or four very useable ones in the collection, though. The top two or three of my choices, actually ended up being the least suitable.

I genuinely think try before you buy is a very good idea. The more you spend, the more important.

All good points, im buying this cue to use and not as part of a collection etc so i have considered going to greenbaize and trying some of their GBL/Maximus cues its about a 2.5hr drive each way. Im from Burton on Trent, staffordshire.

why do you say you want a very stiff shaft? most people do no realise how a little flex is better!

Mike Wooldridge ( which is one of the top 3 cue makers in the world imo ) , also says a little flex in the shaft is better !!
Agree 100 prct . Mutch better feeling .

I totally understand your points about flex and until fairly recently i actually preferred a fairly flexible cue shaft and in fact still do for english pool. However i have found that for snooker on modern fast competition grade cloth i get a little better overall accuracy with a stiff shaft. Yes a more flexible shaft is more "comfortable" and may even be better overall on a slower/worn cloth but just personally i have found that on more unforgiving tables with fast cloth a stiff shaft is for me better.

                      Hi
Im suprised there hasnt been more cues up for sale around that spec. I think i will go with either a new MW "vintage" cue, GBL or maximus ultimate. I have afew days of leave coming up and im thinking of going to greenbaize to try out a GBL and maximus cue. I will keep you posted.
                      Thanks
                      Tom

What are the other cue specs? Any pics? I have heard great things about Maximus cues but have never tried one, not so far anyway

I would consider swapping/exchanging/coming to a deal with a cue around the specs im looking for ( length 57, weight around 18 oz, tip 9.7 upto 10) for my new Mike Wooldridge Black legend (absolutely perfect condition 1 piece cue used for maybe 5 frames at most, medium to stiff shaft, 57" 9.25mm Black spin tip and ferrule, 18 oz, F1 joint in butt for his excellent extensions) let me know if anyone is interested in a deal.
                            Thanks
