  • Case Making

Just looking to see if any one has any info or links to the give info on best materials etc to make a cue case. i have fancied doing this for some time and never got round to doing it however i would like to try and start this soon so any advise etc wold be great. my main problem is trying to figure out material etc for the inside of the case to keep cue safe. I have been looking at padding materials for under some type of fabric to help but not sure what fabric etc would be best.

If anyone has any info at all it would be a great help.

    Cheers

Genuine Leather cases are always sought after as they're waterproof and resilient.

My case has a memory foam lining and it's so much better for the cue than a cheaper alternative.

A case has to protect the cue in transit without letting it move around internally and protect the cue from the elements.

I've never made one but a few on here have. Perhaps search for cases and PM some of the members?

Depends on your budget for making a case.

The most sought after cases seem to be either Ali with a foam inside or the hard leather covered type.

The latter have a wooden frame externally covered by leather and the internal is covered / padded with suede. Genuine leather and suede isn't particularly cheap, but if you are on a budget / learning, you could use the faux stuff to start off with.

if you make one, make sure you put pics up and good luck.

Plan is to make a wooden case using either mdf or pine, undecided at present so may just plan about with both to see. It will then be covered with a faux leather to keep cost down while just trying it :-). Will have a look for some cheap suede (faux) for the interior to try then.

Made one a while ago and I just could not get the leather to look nice on the corners . I'm pretty handy at most things and it frustrated me no end .

The case part is easy enough , as is the padding but the leather at the ends beat me lol

Would have thought 2mm would be a bit on the flimsy side for a full size case, although if it works it would be a great weight saving

Thick suede doubled over . I pulled apart a master cue quality case and that's how it was done . I thought it was padded but it was just the seeded loosely doubled over .

I made mine with MDF ( dangerous fibres an such but I have a respirator ) I made the sides from 9mm as was the centre divider . The ends where 18mm which left plenty for me to round off the corners with a sander or bandsaw . There was enough material to make the ends fully rounded off if I wanted .

When I bought my cue from Green baize stu gave me an old beat up case to get it home , it had fully rounded of ends and I failed to stretch the leather on that too .

I got it on and it looked braw with the case closed but looked bad when case was opened with the bunched up leather at the ends

Maybe I gave up too quickly as that stage was the only bit I wasn't happy with . But I annoyed me and I had just moved house so binned the whole idea

Might give it another go though
