  • Finishing the shot.

Been picking my game apart these last months, just focusing on one thing at a time. I do a 3 hour session a day. Hour at noon an 2 hours in the evenings. So I' feel myself getting better week to week. Learning potting angels and so on and so on. But i noticed on the slower shots there is this inconsistency, like I wasnt following through . So I focused on finishing the shots. Now it feels everytime I do a screw or stund , feels like im forcing the hand to the chest , feels so extreme , feels sort of unnatural. and on the slower ones I feel like I'm forcing it even more to hit the chest, cause im focusing so much on finishing the shot properly.

Is this something you will get used to? Or am I Overdoing it?
Maybe hitting the chest and going a around it?

i like to bring the cue back slow and when im ready, let it go through to the chest 'from the elbow
any chance of a vid of what your doing?

I think you're overdoing it. Like J6 says, bring the cue back nice and slow and just release through the shot.

It's good to be uniform and have a consistent follow through. But you have to make sure you're comfortable and not focussing too much on that one thing.

Personally, I think what you do when you pull the cue back plays the biggest factor in the follow through. Work on that and you'll develop your own authentic timing that's natural to you. If it's natural, you can replicate it and then you can improve.

There are 2 ways of playing a shot, either vary the speed of your follow through or vary the length of your back swing. I have found for me varying the speed is difficult and on some occasions like delicate shots I can decelerate and this causes inconsistency.

So I vary the length of the backswing and just let the cue go till my grip hand hits the chest

ye we all like abit of ronnie, but i also saw you had on your youtube play list the basics with murphy. that basics vid is very good, good for every payer. things he says in the stance and then how he plays that one shot towards the end of the video i could see you thrying to copy that.
as for ronnie i think this is the best video of him when looking at his stance and cue action. again you could look to copy that, doing all the same things as murphy. murphy would of looked closely at ronnie growing up too

but from that one clip you seem a bit off balance, maybe too far forwards. your left leg look lazy like its not working for a stable foundation. having a solid stance really frees up your cueing arm
cueing wise i could see you slowing the back down then slowly building up a more positive acceleration through to the chest. that too would test your balance
for moreinfo it would be good to see you on a lineup

Camera was a bit off but you can see my cue action on some shots..if you watch it all.
I did this tonight , after using Alabadis advice on adjusting the weight of the shot on the backswing end just kind of "let go" til it hits the chest. Must say , it felt awkward at first , and had to remind my some times of keep just "letting go" but when I did I felt i cued better and hit it straigther and smoother. Got a bit frustrated with my self runing out of posisiton in the end... Anyways u can have a look here. Sorry about the idiots celebrating the Liverpool goal vs Exeter

as long you feel good/solid on every shot, your hitting where your aiming, and cueing straigh. then you'll just need to put in the work to find your timing, and play to the level you believe your capable of

I notice that you have a long that cue comes up to your chin from the floor, as does mine; your cue arm position at address is too far back behind the vertical, already at the point where I'm at maximum backswing, so your backswing is very limited as a result.

You could change one of two things, either have a longer bridge to move the cue arm forward, or hold the cue further up the butt, to in effect shorten it.

My advice is to do a little of both, hold the cue an inch further up the butt and push the cue two inches forward in your bridge so that you can have variation in the length of your backswing, something that you don't have now as your backswing is restricted, you'll free up that backswing and give yourself more cue over your thumb to sight along the line of aim to the object ball.

This might feel as though your cue arm will be too far forward, but as you can see from your video this will not be the case, you have about six inches of length of address to play with, and your address will still be behind the vertical with the three inches of change that I advise, so dropping the shoulder into the stroke on the strike will not be a problem.

Shorten the cue a bit. But the other one with the Bridge you mean I should adress the cueball with my bridge further away?
