  • Getting down on the shot

I can pot long straight or staight-ish shots with a decent hit rate and run the white along the spots well enough, so I guess I'm pushing the cue through straight. But I still miss easy shots, sometimes I'll set them up again and miss in exactly the same way 4 or 5 times in a row, then get annoyed and whack it straight in. So I think it's a mixture of confidence and getting down wrong.

So how do you get down on the shot, personally? Do you swoop in and down at the same time? Get your feet in position then drop down? Drop down slowly, or quickly? Is there a best way of doing it?

I stand square on the line then plant my right foot on the line, bring the left foot just a little in front of the right and lean into the shot.

Made it very simple recently and its paying off. Its all to do with planting the back foot on the line leaning in...

I have been moving to a more step in, then drop down recently, because I potted a ball after trying it once but it's harder to lean in straight on an angled shot I find, mainly blues off the spot, I hate them.

A player I have always found to have the best "swoop in" is Maguire, he is like an eagle going for his prey - have a look, see if you agree.
