What if - just supposing you could go back in time and give yourself advice - at snooker -

What would you say to your young self?

To start playing from young age, sadly I found out about snooker when I was in my late teens. There is no chance for me to become player of relatively good standard.

Find the right cue (weight and feel) ASAP and make sure my vision is up to scratch.

That I'd never wasted ten years playing pool before taking up snooker; too many bad habits taking too long to resolve at an age where I wasn't receptive to creating new neural pathways.

And I'm with Neil, should have the balls to get my eyes lasered, but I haven't, so many things have gone wrong in my life and my eyes are so very, very important, so I'll persevere with my snooker specs, which are excellent BTW, coming along nicely with my new lower stance, too late at age 58 ?

I would teach myself how to get down on the shot properly, stick a fiver on Leicester to win the league this year, then disappear entirely from the space time continuum while playing Johnny B Goode.

I would start playing serious snooker at a much younger age than 35. And, oh yes, I would advise myself to ignore enyone in the future with the screen name Byrom

Give myself a list with all the coaches i've seen, telling me to stay well clear of them because they couldn't even spot the glaringly obvious
Don't buy any cues from a supposed superstar cue maker who sold me one of his first ever hand made which turned out to be a reject from another cue maker
It's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

When I was putting most time into snooker, I was playing with a caroom cue, had a bad stance, didn´t pay enough attention on cueballcontrol and breakbuilding, got involved in endless safetybattles (which won me a lots of matches but didn´t improve my game overall) and played on 1980 table with incredible small cushions and slow cloth that effectively prevented breakbuilding.

I would basicly change that, except for the table, all the other things were possible. And I would have gone to UK to visit a coach.

Oh and would have played every penny I´ve got on Denmark winning the european championship in football 1992. After that leaving work to be the worst PRO ever.
