  • Dropping elbow

How do you ensure you avoid dropping the elbow on a deep screw power shot with lots of follow through?

Because I think it's taking my cue off straight.

Do you think you are coming around your chest to make room for your follow through?

Is your hand finishing on or just under your contact point on your chest?

Ronnie drops the elbow. I say don't worry about it.

+1 to that, too much emphasis on chest contact

                    Dropping elbow

I'd imagine if it is dropping make sure on the follow through your ring on your cue hand is smooth all the way through and you shouldn't have to worry

Seriously though, for me one of the best cue action videos out there ,explains it all.
                      Sorry for the double post.

My elbow drops slightly as an extension of my grip hand hitting the chest. No idea how players can hit the chest and keep a still elbow.

As to whether an elbow drop is harmful (or even necessary). It's only harmful if it causes you to not the white where you intended. Typically caused by dropping too early, or as scientists call it, Premature Dropulation.

Is it necessary? If you hit the white with a still elbow, you might get 2"-4" of follow through. Now if you drop the elbow, you could get 5"-7" of follow through. Provided both shots hit the white at the exact same place, with the exact same cue angle, and exact same speed. The results would be identical for both shots. So no, it isn't necessary. The CB is an inanimate object, and therefore can't tell the difference between being struck with a still elbow or dropping elbow.

All it boils down to is if you think it helps your game. Tip location, cue angle, cue speed. Use whichever method gives you the best of all 3.

Nics elbow drops in the video, I don't know how you don't drop it either especially with any power,as long as it's after contact all is well and you are not making room for it by moving or coming around your chest.

just look at maguires action for reasons not to hit the chest, after so long you start coming around so as not to hit the chest and start coming across the ball
