  • Are 'new' elks still inconsistent?

It's well known that Elkmaster tips appear to have lost the consistency that people once knew them for.

Whenever I've purchased tips, I've either bought some that have been repackaged and the box that I did buy was manufactured in 2007 meaning I may not have tried any new ones out.

I'm wondering if the tips they're producing now, in 2016, are still as inconsistent as ever. It seems very strange that they could get worse over time with seemingly no reason and I'm almost thinking that the subtle 'feel' players get from playing is what's actually changing instead.

Please see my thread on Elk hardness preference and let me know yours. I believe that everything that comes out of Chicago will be inconsistent, that's Tweetens for ya. Le pro, triangle, elks, all their tips.

I'm just jumped on there now and voted. I'm in the tip confusion stage and I'm trying to find what's best for me. I've just put another tip on that I can't get as much spin on prompting the question - how is that possible?

Maybe you're right, maybe elks are getting inconsistent because of the all the focus on tips now. Back in the day, they were inconsistent but I don't think we made as much fuss. We just adapted to the tip that was on. For me, it was always a blue diamond and I hardly ever started thinking about the tip. Shaping it yeah, but not replacing it.
