  • MW Supertip issue

    Hi Guys,

I have been using mikes supertips for years now and had always thought they were a great tip, the original were fantastic ( for me anyway)

Then we have the green tip issue but that was quickly resolved by Mike at no cost.

I am now using the latest batch and I am finding them a lot harder than previous versions and that they go very hard and shiny quickly and give an awful ball contact sound upon striking. I thought perhaps it was a bad tip but i have now changed 3 times and each has gone the same and doesn't hold chalk as well as previous versions.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue at all?

It is affecting my play so much I have gone to Elk now which is just a lottery lol

I have some pool barons here but not sure if they will be rock hard too.
Im a pressed tip man not laminated

    thanks in advance

I love his tips but the last one i put on is making a strange sound upon contact as well, I've just bought a new cue so I need to try a different tip to find out where the problem lies

Pool Baron come in Hard, Medium, and Soft (or did when I used to buy them). I have used the Soft several times for UK pool and they are "very soft" compared to may others. And I have heard that the Hard version is on the soft side compared to other tips called Hard/Medium.

      good luck

Also have a couple Pro Granite tips but for now i have popped on an Elk master.

Not sure if i just had a bad tip but that was 2 in a row of the MW Supertips and at over £7 each its expensive just to rip them off after a couple frames

I can't see past the pro granites if you like a hard pressed tip, it's not hard like a lammy, but like a well bedded in elk straight off.

Never tried a pro granite; is there a particular type you use INE and any idea of rough costs?

Pro granites are a lot harder than elks you can't even compare the 2 I use the old mw super tips and have quite afew in a tub. But been trying different tips of late including talisman, pro granite, omin reds, Phoenix blacks, elks, blue diamonds. I have a master cue black magic on one of my cues at the moment and it's very good but harder than a mw super tip don't know why he ever changed then the original super tip was probably the best tip you could buy.

Not that I know of Shockerz, I got mine from GBL but I think they are all the same. To me if you get a hard elk, then when it's knocked down to under half it's height , it's similar to a pro granite I don't know about a soft or medium elk as I never used to put them on, just binned them or pressed them until they were hard.

I kind of having the same feeling regarding the latest batch of MW Super Tips. I used the old ones in the past but the 4 I got there are of a different breed. There are indeed harder and don't hold the chalk as before. Doesn't bother me too much as I like hard tips but it's still under experimentation to me, those ones. I took a bit of time to bed in but now it's ok after 3 weeks I think. Have good feeling but less thant a Blue Diamond Plus for example.
I had a Pro Granite before this one, which was excellent. There is only one range of them, hard

MW used to be my preferred choice of tip but the latest batches got too hard.
ADR's seem the way forward for me at the moment. Each one I've had has been continually consistent.

Looks decent tips indeed but no way I'm gonna pay £7 a tip to get rid of 50% of it once trimmed down to my preferred size...Total waste. Sticking with pressed tips.

£5.99 here in UK for an ADR. Yeah it is expensive, even tried chopping it in half to make 2 tips but I f-ed it up.
I get a lot of play out of them so its ideal for me.

The ADR laminate tips are quite high you see, a lot higher than the average elk.
