  • Jimmy White's aiming routine

I've noticed that Jimmy White's pre-shot routine always involves aiming the cue downwards at the bottom of the cue ball before taking the shot. Is this part of a well-known aiming technique of just a mannerism of his?

    Thanks

No , as far as i know, it's not.

This way he can find the center of the CB much easier. it's a matter of personal preference.
I do the same . helps me to keep the cue parallel to the table during delivery and strike better.

Personally think it would make hitting the ball more awkward, aiming at the base of the white only to have to lift it and hit where you want to hit on delivery just seems odd.

He is not doing that with every shot ,though.
I call it: 2 point contact on CB. (it's a term I've made up )
You choose 2 different contact points on CB. this can be useful especially during playing Scrwback shots , in order to dilever the cue with more self confidence.
you aim the tip as you gonna play the stun shot , While in fact you're gonna play the scrwback shot.
Nic Barrow explain this very well in one of his videos . In case needed, I can try an find that video .
Also helps the player to move the cue up/down during backswing and strike better imo.

of crs , as i mentioned it , it's a matter of personal preference. what works for you .

Jimmy's always done it but actually in recent years i've noticed him miscue quite a few times doing it.

During my first ever coaching session last week, my coach had me give this a go because it apparently helps you cue to the centre of the cueball; the theory being "the bottom-centre of the cueball is the most most central point of the ball as you bring the tip up"

After several attempts I played worse though. Definitely not for me
Favourite players: Kirk Stevens, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Ding Junhui

get a spot c/ball and on every shot rotate the spot to middle ball, stick at it for a few hours
