  • best glue to put on a new tip

so having just seen Ronnie put on a new tip, my question is...whats the best glue to use, we all know superglue works but i always used evo stik contact glue, but takes time to cure, but is it better or is superglue best for all occasions.....what do you experts out there think???

best glue to put on a new tip

I use superglue gel as it is easy to control to placement and amount applied so no worries about excess glue. If I can get the repositionable version I do as it gives a couple of seconds to position the tip just so

Do you thinks its better than contact glue or tip cement, i always questioned superglues ability to survive shocks, ie dropping cue on floor etc

          1. don't drop your cue on the floor.

shock - not had any problem with superglue in this regard and if you think about it every stroke of the cue-ball is a shock and does not break the glue

I sell various glues and the super glue gel is the most popular as it gives people that bit of extra time to move the tip around and get it just right before it sets.

Personally (surprising i'm sure), I use the normal super glue as I've put lots of tips on and I know how much to put on without an excess soaking on the sides and too much through the tip.

As for shocks and the tips coming off? I've not had a tip come off at the glue line or close too it. The only guy that's had a tip come off a couple of times due to shock is where laminated tips have de-laminated half way up the tip.

We all have our way and more than one method / glue works so it's a little bit personal as regards choice so give it a try......probably best to use the gel for yourself.

I was going to add that when a tip does come off it is most often the leather giving up and not the glue as that is usually still on the shaft

Heard good things abut the Gorilla superglue gel. It has an impact absorber built in, micro pieces of rubber, I believe. I have been using the Loctite gel until now but will give Gorilla a go when I next change tips.

Superglue is ok for emergencies but for best results then two pack epoxy is the one to use. I've never had a tip come off.

                    Hi Steve

What's best results? Tried most glues and haven't really noticed too much difference to make me change (of the ones that work that is!).

It's very good glue, never had a tip fall off yet.

Maybe the question we should be asking is which glue have you used and a tip has come off or caused a problem.....at least we'd know what to steer clear of.
