  • What are you doing when you pause?

I was thinking about what goes through peoples mind when they pause.

For me, When I am in the back swing and pause I wait for a picture of the ball going in...........why do you pause and what do you see?

During the pause I switch from cueball to object ball and focus on the contact point.

I've asked a few people this question and I get mixed answers.

The answer I normally get from players at the clubs would be what you expect to hear, i.e. looking at the object ball and seeing it go in the pocket in their mind.

When I ask some players after they have missed a ball what they were thinking about they say nothing, just trying top pot it.

It's an interesting one at natural players seem to think about nothing and snooker exercise players have it drilled into them about what they should be thinking about............when they take it to the table they are always trying to repeat it but not naturally........just my thoughts.

the trick is is to make all those drills and training look so natural like youve never practiced, so when the so called natural player breaks down in the reds or misses a few to many long ones, you dish with discouraging precision

Do natural players all have a pause or has this been manufactured in as the game has progressed?

My pause is only there due to physics. The cue goes back therefore it must have a pause point before it continues forward. Elongated pauses don't work for me. My routine is get down on the shot check my angle with a couple of feathers, then I guess my action is a bit like a bow string, pull it back slow and let it go. When I let it go, sounds weird but I want to push the cue thru elegantly and smoothly. My images are Hendry & ROS, they push the cue thru like they are caressing a beautiful women's face. Lol.

not too sure what a natural player is shock so it could be a bit of both.
i played naturally for years, didnt practice much but made several tons and looked the part. thing was when i came up against truly nice players that didnt miss much or hit bulk colors on their safety and found the back cushion more often than not when they werent scoring. they would leave me standing. thats were the work starts
