Fixing Grain on cue

Hey guys Im new here and just started playing snooker again after a 10 year break. I recently received an old ash/ebony John Parris cue from my brother and the grains are kind of rough and pulls on my stubble. So I oiled the cue to see if it will be a bit smoother but didn't work. Just wondering would a oil based Wood filler smoothen and fill out the grain gaps? if so what filler would I use ? or are there some better method to do this?

Yes a grain filler would help but don't use an oil one as whenever you oil the cue it will pull same of the filter out.

Go to a French polish supplier and get some grain filler from them.

thanks for the advice pal. just wondering would a water base be sufficient enough? because some of the grains are a good 1mm deep that's why i was thinking of sanding the cue down then use oil base as it is thicker

any grain filler will work. be careful when sanding cues down.
