  • Things that don't work for you

I've noticed that most pros, and probably every amateur, seem to have at least one thing that they do that isn't really considered "perfect technique". I can't flick my eyes to the object ball from the cueball during the final pull back, or at the rear pause, just can't do it, always seem to move my head and it just feels wrong.

Anyone else do something that they know is "wrong"?

        Take my cue out...
Only joking ... I have loads of bad habits - lazy ones are the worst - one would be going down on shot changing my mind and adjusting and staying down - another would be over reaching cant be bothered putting extensions on or getting rest out.

I play and cue all over white never hardly centre ball - cant find that place - this however works for me. I tried hitting centre ball all the time and found its hard to do - For me I just cant do it - well I can but does not feel natural to me to play that way.

I over reach all the time, I wonder if you could get some super long winkelpickers it might make the one foot on the floor thing a little easier.

Drinking too many on a on a match night. I'm not sure why but it keeps happening.
I've also got a habit of not trying until i'm 20 points down which doesn't tend to help.

Holding a pause on the backswing doesn't work for me. Every pro pretty much does this. I've tried to incorporate one but I always feel...and what is it I'm waiting for? Miss! Lol.

i hold the back pause too long, just can't release it until my mind has all the information , which seems to be taking longer as i'm aging.

i also have the habit of stretching (hate the rest) and changing my mind on the shot without getting up and resetting

I'm bad for just concentrating on my potting and neglecting to play proper positional shots. Then when I realise this, i start making the breaks! Suppose this is a result of not playing often so I automatically assume that I need to polish my already sound technique. I'm sure i'd have much more success if I just drop in, giving positional play immediate attention!
                  Cheap and Cheerful! 😄

I had you nailed on as saying you were a cue ball watcher if anything, as it's not generally accepted as sound technique. That's what this thread was supposed to be about, not bad habits that you think are bad habits, things "the book" might say are bad, but work for you.

If everyone just wants to list their bad habits feel free though, it wouldn't be right for everyone to stay on topic

I'm confused by this thread then. So...what's 'The Book'???

This is obviously my bad habit (not cueball sighting by the way) not thinking total positional control right from the start. So much so, that last night I just trusted my ability more and right off I made 54, 70 & 71. Then made 54 in the match. So I managed to abandon those unnecessary doubts and can now push on. So no more a bad habit. 😊

A little off topic, please excuse. inevermissblue, I notice that your cue length is 56 1/2ins and I am wondering how tall you are. I am 5ft 6ins tall and my cue is 58ins. I posted a thread on here the other day trying to find someone who could lop a couple on inches off my cue but haven't got anywhere yet. I tend to hold the cue a fair bit down the butt and I think if I could get it shortened it would help.
