  • Pushing through the shot

    We are often taught to push the cue through. But something that crossed my mind whilst playing.

    When you push through the shot, your elbow bends and as you pull back your elbow extends.

    The question is, when pushing through, do you drive that motion of pushing through from your wrists I.e. your wrist is causing your elbows to bend, or do you drive it through the elbow I.e you are focusing on your joint to create the same effect.

    I hope this is clear but it's something I'm quite interested in. I noticed when I cue through the ball I have a tendency to feel the forces more through my wrists and played around with creating this motion more so through my elbows.

    I'm a little bit of both, but I only really move the wrist on the pull back, on delivery it's all elbow, well that's the idea anyway

      Think about it you 2...the backswing and delivery are controlled by the muscles on the UPPER arm. I'm not familiar with their names but when in the address position the muscles on the lower part of the upper arm (closest to the ground) contracts to give you your delivery with the lower part of the arm.

      The wrist shouldn't be moving at all throughout the backswing and delivery, although the fingers do. In addition on the backswing and delivery the elbow should lower at the very ends of both in order to keep the cue on the same (and almost level) plane.

      The othr thing that's important is you should accelerate through AND BEYOND the cueball, in fact keep accelerating until your grip hand hits your chest.

        Bicep on delivery .....triceps on backswing
