  • rhythm + tempo

how do you bring your practice rhythm and tempo into a match.

I have found playing a bit quicker / more aggressively in practice works a lot better (no negative thoughts/what if etc)
and as a result i seem to miss less and score more

just wondering if anyone has any pointers..

Have a consistent 'pre-shot routine', your routine can be quick or slow but as long as it is consistent it doesn't matter.
I recently changed my pre shot routine and it is now consistent, my scoring has improved greatly and I can maintain my focus on each shot.
All of the above have lead to a nice consistent tempo around the table, which even my team mates have noticed.

Iv always found if a player is overly aggressive its usually a sign of some sort of weakness in there game, and more often than not its their fragility under pressure.
if you have the rhythm to apply pressure + tempo to soak the pressure up, that would make you a nice player and a tough nut to crack..

if you don't mind me asking what is your pre shot routine??

and what have you added to it to make you more consistant?

Happy to share- I stand behind the shot, walk into the shot on the correct line, get down on the shot, bring tip to the cue ball, pause, 1st feather, 2nd feather, bring cue back and pause, then hit.
The pause at the start is my trigger, in the same way that golfers have their own triggers before playing a shot.

My action in terms of feathering is the same as Judd Trumps only a little slower. I always make sure I feather the same number of times which is what really dictates my tempo.
If I get a moment I'll share a video, if you want to know anything else drop me a private message, always happy to help.

I've always thought of rhythm and tempo as two different things. You can play faster by increasing your tempo, but play to the same rhythm.
Imagine playing a tune to a metronome set a certain tempo. If you increase the tempo of the metronome, the notes will hopefully still have the same length relative to each other and the tune will sound fine.
But if you play off-beat, then the tune will not sound good, no matter what speed you play at.
Consistency on your shot routine (doing the same thing every time) is the key to getting your brain hard-wired, but you can still play faster or slower, as all the pros do.
