  • What makes it bend?

Sorry if it's a silly question but it's about learning cues and then becoming bent.

It's commonly stated that when a cue is being stored in a case, it should be leaned against a wall because it can warp or a cue shouldn't be left leaned against a wall in general as it'll bend.

But when cues are stored in cue racks, surely they aren't completely straight and even in a rack are leaned to a degree of angle. Doesn't this cause a cue to bend as well?

I'm asking because it's been mentioned plenty that if not stored in a case, it should be stored in a cue rack.

So what is it about storing against a wall that isn't recommended compared to a rack.

It is the loss of moisture content in the wood and why we polish all high-end furniture and why we wax and polish snooker cues. As for leaning against a wall the wood will eventually bend to conform to gravity however most cues can be straightened if this was the cause. In addition temperature changes (like freezing or cold at night and then warmer during the day) will also warp a cue and most likely ruin it.

Keep the cue in a case and laying flat if being stored for a long period of time.

I had a cue in my wardrobe for the better part of 6 years perched against a wall and it still stayed straight. I sometimes think this talk of cues warping when leaned against something is only for extreme cases.

If wood is going to warp, it'll warp. All about quality of wood.

Heat, cold, moisture are all killers, although my current cue was up in the loft for 20years until recently, where it's both very hit and very cold, but stayed arrow straight.

Took a cue to Thailand and the shaft turned into a banana very quickly. A really extraordinary bend.

Like had been said, you can never know for sure what a cute will be when it comes to bending...
Worked with wood at a high standard for a lot of years and it's still guess work sometimes when your cutting it...

Its all a myth. Heat and moisture bend cues, gravity does sweet fa.
