  • Using del drive and top spin

Just been watching the clips of Del Hill on Youtube showing the "drive" and wondered is this used on top spin shots? I'm thinking the butt of the cue would have to be raised quite high, and would the bridge hand be able to be high enough to ensure a parallel delivery through the cue ball?

What's the Del drive? Have you got a link to the vid?

The link worked fine but the camera position/setup was ridiculous !

Yeah Cazmac1, not sure why he ended up getting banned. I know he had an ultimate on order, think he sold it on soon after getting it.

The Del drive is basically Ronnie O'Sullivan's cue action then, so the answer would be yes, you can use it on topspin shots. I don't think you have to alter your bridge at all, the cue still goes through parallel. I do this naturally, and the main problem is that on soft shots, when I'm not too confident my elbow can drop too early and the cue hits the side of the table. Hopefully these videos will help me out, thanks

I too have a natural elbow drop, bloody stupid thing, I have no idea why anyone would want to introduce it to their game, I'm in the middle of getting rid of it.

Why not just embrace it? If it's good enough for Ronnie to win 6 worlds it can't be that bad.

                      Yes it can
I tried the elbow drop and my elbow started to hurt and ache for sometime after the session so I stopped trying it.
                      Up the TSF! :snooker:

I think you might have been trying to drop the wrong elbow

I also tried the Dell Hill "point the toes to the pocket" stance and could not hold that for several strokes without my knees hurting. So I stopped that c*** as well.
Be comfortable at the table and in your stance, not contort yourself into agony.
That was the worst waste of money for a Dell Hill trained coach session.

Never heard of that one Dean.
Out of interest, did Dell Hill teach Ronnie this elbow drop/ drive style, or did he see that Ronnie did it naturally and built a coaching career around one players idiosyncrasies?

What I meant was, that if you naturally drop your elbow it's easier to just perfect the elbow drop than to completely change your cue action. You will end up dropping the elbow again under pressure. But I see what you mean, it's a stupid idea.
