  • Weight of tc's

I picked up a set of tc's from eBay but the white was battered. I randomly weighed a few balls and they were all 140ish, I think the white was a cheap replacement as it was very white but only weighed 134, I ordered a replacement white from craftsman which is 144, I guess this will be OK?

I'm going to weigh the full set tonight.

144g is a bit heavy compared to 140ish. The official tolerance allowed between the litest and the heaviest is 3g.

Thought so but I didn't want to be asking craftsman to weigh and send a similar one.

I assume that the range is between the particular set of balls, rather than everyone produced.

1G Balls have a 1 gram difference between the heaviest and lightest or +\-0.5g from the middle weight, with 3G within 3g or +\-1.5g.

My guess is that after manufacture the balls are filtered into higher or lower than the target and then put into sets. This means that 1G can be manufactured with +\- 1G tolerance of target weight, while both sets will be +\-0.5g of each other, the manufactured range can be 2g.

Thurstons in Liverpool will weigh the replacement balls and try to find one that fits into your set. I'm a bit puzzled about your 144g white. I'm no expert but I've weighed about 10 sets of TC's recently and I've never come across one that heavy. From memory I bought a white from Chesworth Cues that was near 143g. Strange that Aramith's manufacturing process couldn't get the balls all more or less within a gramme.
