cue finish

hi guys
When I have finished my cue I plan on finishing it with linseed oil. Should I use raw linseed oil or boiled. Also do I use the oil on all the cue or should the ebony but be finished differently to the shaft

Either or is fine mate. Only difference is boiled linseed has driers in it. I use clear liberon wax to get rid of the stickiness afterwards.

Can take a while to dry.
Light costs is best option. Also try Danish oil.

I use Danish oil, dries in about 10-15 minutes.
Just there to not put the cloth you put it on with straight in the bin, lay it flat to dry out first, or can start a fire..
Same with linseed oil..

I peg mine on the washing line, always creates a bit of debate with my other half...........

Lol... I can see that happening but as long as you let it dry...sure she wouldn't be happy if there was a fire in the bin if you didn't lol

She's good as gold really.

I dry them on the line normally, put them all in a carrier bag, push all the air out, knot the bag and get them in the dustbin.....not that I'm anal or anything!

Recentl moved away from linseed oils and am now using lemon oil for a great finish with almost no drying time.

Should try Danish oil as you have the same thing, next to no drying time.

Boiled linseed on the butt, danish oil on the shaft, raw linseed never dries properly, always stays a tad tacky.
Apply three or four coats of each with a lint free cloth, giving 24 hours and a soft going over with 0000 wire wool between coats, then when the final coat is dry buff it 'til it shines, again with a soft lint free cloth.
I use old linen bedsheets ripped into approx two foot squares.

Just on the off chance, do you have any pics of a just finished cue mate. It would be interesting to see the finish on the butt. Considering a few new finishes at the moment.

I have never understood what is in lemon oil. to the best of my knowledge it would take an insane amount of lemons to get a usable amount of oil. Lemon oil is therefore actually lemon scented oil and I have never been able to actually find out what oil/mix of oils is used to produce 'lemon oil'. Anyway out of interest what brand do you use as like others I am always looking to try different oils. And what affect does it have on the shaft colour wise? I really like boiled linseed oil as it has a feel I like on the shaft but depending on the cue I may or may not want the change in colour it produces.

Lemon oil is fantastic, as is orange oil.
As mentioned next to no drying time and lovely finish.
