  • Reducing ferrule by .3mm

Hey guys anybody shed some light on a question i have pls?

If i want a ferrule to come down to 9.7mm from a 10mm is that a pretty straight forward thing for a cuemaker to do? And does it mean they have to mess with the original taper of the cue or not? And lastly will it have much difference on playability?

Yes ... You could probably do this yourself by polishing it down/out the walls of the ferrel - might take a while but

I took a mil or two off before doing this myself - its relatively easy for a cue maker to do this.

You might as well do this yourself with some emery paper at least 320grit, some calipers and 1200grit to polish the brass.

Is a 0.3mm difference in diameter discernible enough to want to send it away to be reduced though? You're less likely to benefit anyhow unless you trim your tips down with a lathe!

If you are going to do it yourself, just be careful to work on the ferrule first.
So that you don't dip the wood up just under it.

What about just metal polish? wont this reduce it over time?

Yes it could but would take way to long to do...

Matt had the right idea and wouldn't take to long to do that way, plus more able to control what your doing.
