Can my cue be fixed?

Ok, long story short: someone, no names no pack drill, broke into my locker at my club and broke my cue. I'd suspected someone was playing with it for some time. The cue is now two inches shorter, with a different ferrule and tip. The manager is straight batting it but if he wasn't responsible, I'm a banana.

Anyway, the cue is perfectly playable and i actually quite like it as it is. The only issue is it has developed a rattle, and not a minor one at that. The sound is appalling, like the sound you get when a weight bolt has come loose from an American cue, but the rattle is in the shaft, not the butt - it's a 3/4 btw. So, what could cause a shaft to rattle? And is there a fix?

V max could probably repair it for you - he is good and will only charge you a grand

Sometimes the weight is put in the shaft and if this is loose it will rattle , also if an epoxy or resin is used to glue the joint and it goes brittle and a piece breaks off this will cause a rattle . Take it to Andy Travis or Tony Glover and get them to take the joint out , check any weights ( if there are any ) and reset the joint . The only other time I had a cue with a rattle that wasnt the joint or glue was a splice finger that had split , again not a problem .

Don't about fixing the cue.
But I stopped leaving my cue in clubs back in the 80's when trust between club members was instinct.

Would it not be easy to check if your weight is up in the shaft by checking the weight or the balance point of the shaft? I'm only asking , the cue lads will know if any of that is a goer. If there is no weight, it could be ferrule or maybe a loose bit of glue on the joint? If its been snapped and referruled that's where I would start.

Handheld voltage/ stud / metal detector tool from any diy outlet e.g B & Q etc used on the cue will tell you if there is a weight there . Loose ferrule isnt quite so noisy and is usually more of a " ting " than a rattle . Still , I would advise you to ask a cue maker .

Sounds like the glue has come loose in the space where the joint is.
It's a straight forward repair as long as it's not something like a dragon cue.
Changed the joint in one for a friend for a new one but they are very thin near the joint....
Where are you for a start and may be easier to find someone near you.

I had a similar issue with my old 3/4. The joint had gone, the disgusting rattling sound was so off putting.
