  • Re spot black or not

I was playing a club match the other week & I was 7 infront with only the black left on the table, now eveybody knows that my oppenent had to pot the black to force a re spot. It was my shoot and I hit the black leaving it hanging over the pocket but the white went in off leaving the scores level. I said that the black should be re spotted but everybody around me said it should stop where it is. Does any one out there know the proper rule ? thanks Paul.

    Respot it

why should it not be respotted? the white ball was pocketed while black was announced. no other could be announced! that leads inevitable to a 7-point-worth foul. that results in a tie and a tie without remaining balls on the table leads to respotted black...

    tell me if i'm wrong...
    best regards, markus

      you donkey!

how did you manage that you donkey? Ha only kidding the black should remaineth in its assuming position if you want it to but you lose the frame anyway for fowling on the black.

As 5UNDER so nicely pointed in anohter post, here are the official rules.. in this case look at number 4:

        4. End of Frame, Game or Match
        (a) When only the Black is left, the first score or foul ends the frame excepting only if the following conditions both apply:
        (i) the scores are then equal, and
(ii) aggregate scores are not relevant.
        (b) When both conditions in (a) above apply
        (i) the Black is spotted,
(ii) the players draw lots for choice of playing
(iii) the next player plays from in-hand, and
(iv) the next score or foul ends the frame.
So, no doubt about it, the black should have been respotted.

This is not billiards... you don't automatically lose when you foul on the black ball.
