  • Spins & Object Ball Video - my study on this subject

    Hi everyone!

You guys and your discuss/debate here made me curious about spins. So, I tried out a video @240fps (no high-speed I know, but maybe just enough) to see what is actually happening to that object ball. Straight shots (exept the half ball cut one) executed in slow/medium pace. The balls were potted to corner pocket from position close to the black spot.

I did not have any expectations when started potting balls for this video. I'm far away from being a decent player, and I won't have any practical use for this result (if there is any). However, I'm happy I did this after all. I got my head cleared.

    the video here:

Sorry about flickering - I did not have a suitable light source for shooting at 240fps video.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the balls used were Aramith Tournament Champions and the cloth was Hainsworth Precision (in well used condition, not brushed or anything else lately).

Great stuff. It shows there is a very little bit of spin imparted on the object ball but then with both right and left side (and I noticed you used a lot of it) the ball spun around 1/2-turn and then seemed to skid a bit and settle down.

Not much object ball spin at all on the cue shot, maybe a 1/4-turn or so at most.

Thanks for that. It does show spin transfer but not in any usable amount and it does show a slight spin on angled shots but again not enough to be usable I think.

Terry by 'usable' would you agree that there isn't enough for this method of aiming to be fully trusted? I too believe spin can be imparted but the effects are in my opinion minimal, especially having seen the evidence produced of late.
        "just tap it in":snooker:

I agree it's of no use at all. However, for runningside he will be getting replies that he played the shots too hard and negated the SIT effect. I've found there's usually some kind of excuse on why it doesn't work well enough to use.

So throwing the OB Left with RH side and Right with left hand side as what happened in the vid is of no use to you whatsoever???
It's no wonder you get confused to which side you should use :biggrin-new::biggrin-new::biggrin-new:

Looking at it again, Runningside played his right hand side shot with left hand side

Not another spin thread. My hair is going to fall out.

At the mo my balls need a good clean so when I was smacking the OB"s about during safety practice playing with side you can see the little flicks of black dirt spinning sidewards after leaving the CB. Also, I potted some pinks with drag and side in to the middles so I could hit the pinks thicker to hold closer to the reds. Now, I going to admit I would normally play them plain ball and leave myself a longer red, but they were dropping and keeping me close in.

                      Definitely keep experimenting for sure..
