  • Blind in one Eye

I've loved snooker all my life but only really taken it seriously (, lots of practice) the past year. 15+ years ago I lost my left eye. I very rarely get breaks over 20 and don't know if this is due to my "slight handycap" or not? I'm certainly trying very hard to improve. Can anyone out there encourage me? Maybe you have similar problem?

Why not get in contact with WDBS (the governing body which covers snooker for all disabilities). They hold events for those who are partially sighted. Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/WDBS1/ or main website at www.wdbs.info In fact there's an event coming up in Hull, weekend of 11/12 November, with an open day on the Friday 10th.

I play with a guy who plays in the world snooker games for people with disabilities and he plays lots of events.

He is knocking in regular 30+ breaks and has a very tidy safety game considering.

He lost the use of his dominant eye so he does very well considering.

Didn't seem to affect the great Joe Davis! I have practically no sight in my right eye and don't look on it as a disability. Clearly 20/20 vision would be better but in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. ( Think that's the quote lol).
Lots of players sight with one (their stronger) eye. Keep practicing!

marcopolo - where are you located, maybe there is a recommended coach you can pop along to for more tips and practise routines to up your game
Also, as LondonLad mentions, maybe the WDBS can point you in the right direction as well for coaching (maybe specialised in your situation)?

            ps welcome to TSF
            Up the TSF! :snooker:

They have a very good set up at the WDBS. I know Steve feeney coach a few of the lads from there.

I got a mate that I play regular, he is one eyed and can knock in 30s and 40s occasionally. He used to bang on about its harder for him because of his loss of eye etc so I challenged him to a match with me wearing a patch over the eye of HIS choice. He never took me up on it. The point I'm making is .... marcopolo don't worry about being one eyed you will sort it out with practise and set up. I told him that I would need ten minutes to warm up with the patch and the match would have to be short format because I know being two eyed the eye I used would get tired quickly due to doing all the work. This is not the case with one eyed people because their eye gets stronger. Take faith from triedandtesteds mate, 147 with one eye brilliant, can be done.
                      Easy on the garlic....

Hi Marco I have a similar problem for about 20 years I am 90% blind in my right eye and have tunnel vision in my left. I love snooker too and have recently started playing again, its all about where you place your cue when your eyeing your shot. Try practicing with slightly different positions until you find one that suits you better. Its just an observation but when you lost your sight 15 years ago, you probably still have the same setup as you had from before it happened. Regards and Good luck.
