  • [VIDEO] Can anyone critique my cueing please

    Hey guys,

I am trying to get better at snooker, I noticed that the butt of my cue wasn't on line with the shot so today i moved my foot backward on each shot and I was much more accurate than normal but still to me in these videos it looks like I may be cueing across the white or maybe my back arm is not in line.

Does anyone see anything I should work on?

    Here is another angle:

And here is my first one where I stupidly but the phone too close to the table

    Thanks!

You bring your cue across the line of aim on your approach to the table, rather than straight down on the line of aim.
If you bring your cue down straight on the line of aim, then make your stance /set up around this you can't fail to be line up/set up properly, then it's just a matter of delivering the cue straight.

But I should be placing my right foot on the line first right? Then are you saying bring the cue straight down and the move my left foot to where it needs to be?

It's quite hard to give tips from a few youtube videos really. My advice would be to go and see a coach for at least a couple of hour sessions and get some advice on the basics like stance etc. You've clearly got some ability as you've had a 50.

If anything I'd say your action is a little bit snatchy and not smooth but I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment. You don't need to hit the ball as hard, focus on a smooth cue action, you will be less likely to cue across the line if you hit the ball a bit softer and you'll have a better chance of the pocket accepting the ball. I went to see a coach recently and his advice has been great.

Yeah that would be a good start for your approach, at the moment you bring the cue across your body, basically never getting it on the line of aim until it's on your bridge(so your guessing really).

Will do, how much should I expect to pay for a coach?

It varies, I pay £25 per hour to see Andrew Highfield who is based near Wolverhampton. Whereabouts are you based?

My friend you have a short backswing . Which is no problem , imo.
Try to start slow with your delivery and than speed up .

Wacht this vid ( from 11:45 ) and listen to what this guy says regarding cueing and how to approach the shot , please .

Of cours , as already mentioned , paying a visit to a coach would be the best option .

A good way to know if you're cueing straight off the bat is paying attention to where the tip of your cue is pointing after the follow through. On a dead straight pot such as the one you're playing on the blue, the tip of the cue should be pointing in the heart of the corner pocket. Seems like your cue has a tendency to push left after you strike the cueball. You still managed to pot the ball a few times but just focus on delivering that cue through the middle of the white and pushing through to the middle of the corner pocket.

Yes that is one thing I noticed from watching the videos back. Do you know what could cause that?

Do you think? I never thought I had a short backswing, maybe it's the angle of the vid?

From a google search there is a coach called Gavin York in Northampton. http://snookercoaching.net/
Nic Barrow will be very good but yes I would think he'd be quite a bit more expensive.
