  • Old pics of Steve Davis' cue being worked on

Just came across this on twitter of the "ye olde ash" cue getting the chop.

Wouldn't have minded seeing them all separate in higher res

Was this a conversion from one piece to 3/4 or did he have the cue re-spliced?

It was a 1 piece Ye Olde Ash cue that was converted to a 3/4 cue with the joint through the splice tips.

Hmm so did Parris supply the cue too ?
Because £200 in '86 for only splicing a cue seems like a total rip off ????

He did a similar job for ROS circa 1990 and quoted him £140.

No splicing done, might have been more done to it than we know in terms of weight, balance etc, and it's more than likely the £200 was including a tip from Steve for sorting his cue. It was never cashed at any rate.

Ronnie's cue was pretty much built from scratch as the butt had almost separated from the shaft.

Was this the same cue that Davis retired playing with or did he change cues throughout his years of playing?

He changed a few times but finished with the one in the pics.

I am referring to when he had his Burwat 1 piece converted to a 3/4 style with a joint in the splicing - before having it lengthened several times.

I remember seeing that cue and I thought it looked really bad.

Last i seen him using it the cue looked as though it needed a refurb, chalk on the tip end of the shaft and the joint needed realigned to match the splices back up.
