  • Do you agree with this on technique?

I got Frank Callan's Snooker Clinic yesterday and have been enjoying reading it.

One thing (amongst others) that I was surprised about is he seems to make a play that the bridge is more important than the stance. In fact, he seems to imply from how I read it that it doesn;t matter how you stand - whether square or twist that the bridge hand is key to keeping the cue online.

Did anyone read that how I read it?

What did people who read the book think of it. I actually think it's a great training book!

    Thoughts?

I would say a solid bridge is equally as important as a solid stance even slightly more so. As if you have a bridge hand that moves the cue is always going to go off line. Stance providing it's reasonably solid and allows the cue to go through.

I don't always agree with the Frank Callan stuff especially the 105% thing I think that ruined Griffiths and Hendry's game eventually too long messing about on the shot destroys the natural flow mechanical players should play faster and have more confidence in their ability and not think it's some technique doing the potting it's the guy holding the cue.

I actually think this is where I've been going wrong! Messing about too much with stance etc and not just naturally flowing with a solid bridge and grip...

I'm going to try this new approach when I go at weekend.

From what I read so far the book is quality!

Once said by Steve Davis in a reply to a question about the stance - 'you don't pot the balls with your feet'.

According to the textbooks most of them say you adopt the stance which best suits your handedness and your dominant eye, if you believe in that theory. So it would suggest if you are left handed but right eyed you would be in the boxer style stance.

However left handed and left eyed you would be more square on with legs bent i dont think it makes a huge difference as long as your stance is solid and you feel your on the correct line of shot

The Grip is the most important part of keeping the tip going where you want it.
Nothing else is all that important.
