  • Spotted white ball.

Just read somewhere shaun murphy saying that that the powers that be will be bringing in the spotted cue ball for snooker. Why would they do this and whats everyones opinions as to this change ?
Not played for 3 years and itching for a game....11-3-2017.

    Spotted white ball.

think it could be so the viewer can understand what the pros are doing to the cue ball and how they make certain shots

The luddites will die off sooner or later and sanity will prevail. Players of the future will look back in credulity that it look for long to implement.

The spotted white is great for Billiards imho, and I dare say that if it was introduced into snooker,
most people wouldn't bat an eyelid after a wee while.

What's the worst that could happen ?

Correct. Simple fear of change. The measles ball is fantastic once you're used to it.

I have used the spotted white in tournaments and found it didn't effect me at all since I don't look at the cueball when I deliver the cue.

I believe the last time this was tried by the WPBSA all the pros objected so it never came to pass. For me, don't care one way or the other.

the spotted white is great for the super slow mo replays showing non players what the pros are doing with the cue ball
snooker needs to keep up to date with other cue sports to keep it on tv
showing watchers that have never picked up a cue whats happening on shots makes it easier to understand
anyone thats ever played has an understanding but its tough for commentators to explain
all the players will be well used to a spotted white through chinese 8 ball or other cue spots

Too many replays as it is pandering to the non playing spectator with a five second attention span without looking to see if the cue ball had side on it after every shot. As I stated before the spotted cue ball has a tendancy for target fixation when addressing it; if you're wanting centre ball striking and one of the spots is a tad off centre your eyes could be drawn to it when placing the tip to the cue, resulting in cueing across the line.
Now what if a pro constantly asked the referee to turn the cue ball so that there was a single spot dead centre of the ball because he was experiencing this ?

Biggie calls us luddites, but the pros turned it down once probably for that reason.

I wouldn't be against striped reds and spotted colours to make the game more visually appealing but leave the cue ball alone, it's plain white for a good reason.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

pros wont get much of a choice once Mr. Herns decides whats going to happen
and he only cares about non playing veiwers paying the wages!

I am sure in time I would get used to it, but I just don't like the way that they look.

Absolute nonsense as ever, from start to finish. I don't know how you do it!

I hate the plain white ball, as does the vast majority of the cue sport playing world. As ever, snooker is in the dark ages.

Quite right too. If players ruled the game, nothing would change.
