  • Confused about a cue's brand: O'min or not O'min?

    Hi everyone.
I apologize, in advance, for my bad English. I am Spanish.

I've purchased, via eBay a cue, not so expensive. It looks well (I have not tested how it plays).

It looks like the cue's but is in ebony. It is black wood (very deep black, but I can see it is not painted, but real wood, with some little color imperfections) On the joint (a vacuum one, I presume) there are the inscription: "Hand made cue by O'min" BUT... the badge is not O'min. Instead, the badge says: "Professional England Cues" where the word "England" is in green color. It looks like the badge has been handled and glued by hand.

I know if it is an old O'min cue is surely a nice cue...

In the cue's shaft (ash. I'm sure) there is the inscription "Lewis Derry", in a nice Medieval font.

Globally, the cue looks nice, but I have the chance to resend it to the seller.

What you think? The cue costs around 60 pounds including postage fees.

Thanks a lot to everybody from an Spanish snooker fan.

no apologies, your English is much better than most of our Spanish

a picture tells a thousand words

use ImgBB or Tinypic (others available) to gain a sharing code for your image file (for forums, etc) and paste the code into a post to show us your cue.

      Hi again.
      Here are the pictures:

Some more hints in this thrilling case.

On the bottom of minibutt there is an O'min badge (you can see in one of the pictures). I suspect the cue is a true O'min... Bingo?

Looks like a genuine Thai o'min, not the cheap chinese version. I don't think the chinese imprint onto the joint. It's a shame that someone seems to have gauged out the original badge, but the Thai O'mins are supposed to be decent players.

Do you have any photos of the splices? Might help members identify the model.

Thanks a lot for your answers.

New clues in this breathtaking case!!. It looks like the minibutt could be in the same wood than the cue's but is. It looks, too, the former owner was, maybe, a serious snooker player. Into the cue's case I found four pieces of Triangle chalk, very well used (see picture) and a hangable pocket to the chalk chunk. There is, too, a little bit of iron wool (I suppose it is to shine the ferrule and the joint)

New pictures of the splices and minibutt. (Could anybody identify the wood the butt is made?)

Badge and font look similar to one that Dave Coutts used to use . He is a member on here why not ask him. I think you could be right in that its an O Min that has been altered and a new badge put in .

Emmmm... the letters are embossed down in the wood an red coloured.

Do you know who is that "Lewis"?

                            ah right, so they are
nope don't know him; in the old days some retailers sometimes added their own sticker or badge to a cue in addition to the maker's; but I think this is a previous owner
