  • New cue advice please, would really appreciate guidance

    Hi All,

I've played with various Chinese cues over the last 5 years that have been ok, but I want to improve my consistency and am now looking to take a step up and invest in a 'known-brand' handmade cue, so I'd really appreciate any advice from people with knowledge in this area please.

    I play to a County pool standard and currently use a 1-piece, 8.5mm tip, 17oz, 57" cue

I think I'm looking to buy a 18oz & 58" cue - I do like the 8.5mm tip as it gives me decent control on the pool table, but there doesn't seem much choice out there under 9mm tips (or am I just not looking in the right places?)

From my initial research around the web it looks like i should be able to get what I'm looking for in 1-piece or 3/4 for £150-£250 and my preference would be a classic plain black ebony hand-spliced cue. Not worried about whether new (with or without case) or used, it's all about the cue really. Would consider 9mm tip if the right cue comes along but no bigger.

So my post is really to pick your brains at what peeps would recommend I look at and also, does anyone have a cue matching my spec that they are selling please (and if so how much)?

Thanks in advance for your help

I have a Will Hunt Green Plate similar spec, but possibly closer to 17 oz then 18oz. 8.6mm tip, 1 piece, ash/ebony with 4 rosewood splices. send me a personal message if you want more information. I have the original certificate for the cue form Will Hunt.
