  • ADR147 BLACK EDITION SUPER SOFT Laminated Tip & Random DIY Tip/Case Protector

Decided to remove the slightly too small (think it was about 8.7mm) Elk Master tip that came with the Taylor Made Classic cue and replace it with a larger ADR147 laminated, which from what I'd read, sounded about what I was looking for. So before heading off for a game with a mate of mine early this morning, I took the cue to my workshop..

Have to say, the recommendations on here were spot on. It played beautifully and was the exact mixture of grip and (what felt to me like) medium hardness that I was after. Didn't prevent me embarrassing myself on the table but it did at least inspire confidence in itself.

I guess you'd describe the result of my fitting as a 10mm "mini-mushroom". It's definitely overhanging slightly but by less that 1mm all round. I took the height down by about a third and didn't feel the need to take it down any further, although I only had time to shoot 3 frames.

Not sure it needed burnishing but I gave it a quick going over round the edge anyways.

    Certainly holds the chalk well.

And finally, being as my case is new I thought I might try to look after this one so I found some random plastic cap in my workshop, that, with a little help from my Dremel, now fits like a glove and should stop the chalk from getting everywhere!

LOL! It's a tad phallic, I admit but it's free and it works.

Nice work WD , hope you enjoyed yourself? This forum could have saved me months of banging balls around with dodgy tips when I returned, so glad I found it! Good bunch of people on here, old school, new school, snooker Lovers.

I have a rolled paper tube that works well, with no chance of scratching the wood or brass and no pressure on the tip

Agreed CC. Definitely a life saver. By today's evidence I'm gonna need all the help I can get before I'm anywhere close to decent again, too!!

Best advice I can give is, mix a bit of solo practice with partner practice.. The solo thing, not for everyone but returning it's a chance to "find" your old game a bit. First potting the baulk colours and advancing to getting on the blue, then getting that easy pink and black.

I never ever did a line up till I returned after a 21 year break, but it's great practice. Never beat yourself up, we come too far 😉 Nice little tip I got when returning was, don't attempt a line up, till ya got in the groove a bit. Then when you feel up for the challenge "never" beat yourself up over a miss! Important!! Just chill, put the missed ball In the pocket with your hand and carry on, like you never missed! That way you feel better, keep the momentum and take the lower challenge of "how many misses can you complete the line up in" just more fun, less pressure and very good confidence building practice.

Maybe one of the main things I would love to share with ya, is once you get feeling "great" in solo practice, don't expect similar "form" in playing a buddy in a little match. It can be very disappointing, and took me some time to get form when I joined the local league.

Ok, I've banged on a bit now so gonna shush - but look forward to hearing how you get on going forward.

Tbh, snooker was not my main game, pool was. That said, I played in the league as a youngster and my high break was 99 (yep, that still hurts) so I wasn’t terrible, either. The worst is knowing what you should do, knowing how to play the shot but not having your eye in yet to make the shot. It’s just practise but will take a while. Yes, lots of solo. I hate losing!

Good idea. I thought of making a leather one from some old leather bits I have lying around. Still might yet but this works for now.
