  • New to Snooker

    Hey all,

I'm fairly new to this game of snooker as I have started playing for about a month or so?

Just wondering, what is an efficient way of practicing to improve in aspects of the game?

    Do drills help?

    Cheers!

Hi, welcome to the forum. It certainly helps to have some structure to your practice rather than just knocking balls around. There's some guys on here who have videos on youtube, so I'll leave the specifics to someone else, as I learnt pre-internet (i.e. pretty inefficiently). There's no substitute for having as much time on the table as possible, and getting good is certainly a marathon rather than a sprint, so be patient.

Gotcha, thanks! Slow and steady wins the race ahaha.

      Cheers!

Find somewhere cheap to play, maybe go to more expensive venues when you feel a bit more confident. Maybe talk to people at your local snooker venue. I have learnt so much from snooker vets at my club!

Drills do help early on in the learning curve. If you can get the basics correct (in terms of technique) and then master certain shots that frequently arise in a game (such as colours of the spots, especially the black) then you'll quickly pick up the confidence to knock in pots. Follow Barry Stark and BartonSnooker on YouTube and work on technique and drills. It will eventually all fall into place
